"Many grains are the most important basic components of bread. One single grain, not ground, does not make bread. But each grain bears essential ingredients: nutrients, roughage, vitamins, the gift of new life, growth and abundance. Each single grain is important for the whole bread."
Our community consists of individual Sisters. No two of us are alike. Each one is called to be herself, an original person with all that belongs to her, such as physical characteristics, life history, preferences, strengths and weaknesses - all of which make that individual the distinct person that she is. Every Sister is unique and receives self-assurance from her gift of the Spirit.
"A loaf of bread can be produced from many grains; it will be more delicious in proportion to the greater variety of cereals that are used. Multi-grained bread is delicious, nourishing and just plain good!"
Living in relationship with others does not mean giving up on ourselves. Each Sister keeps her individuality, but she is also attentive to her Sisters and shows goodwill and esteem to her. We believe that although we are different from one another, it is important to tell each other that we love and need one another. The Sisters of Saint Rita live in community as an important counter-cultural sign to our world today, which is marked by isolation, egoism and competition.
"Many different grains then, must go through the mill so that a good dough can be produced. When the hard husks are broken up and the grains are ground together, a pleasant aroma emerges. The grains are now totally mixed. We would never succeed in turning the flour back into individual grains."
